The Bonifatiuswerk of German Catholics helps where Catholic Christians live their faith in a minority situation in the diaspora. The aid organisation supports projects in Germany, Northern Europe and the Baltic states with the mission and goal that "No one should believe alone.".
The Bonifatiuswerk has supported projects in the diaspora for 175 years. Today the aid organisation is active by order of the German Bishops’ Conference in Germany, Northern Europe and the Baltic states.
On October 4th 1849, Catholics in Regensburg founded the 'Bonifatiusverein' (Boniface Association), which later became the Bonifatiuswerk of German Catholics. With a moving history spanning times of war and peace, through German division, facing new challenges in Northern Europe and the Baltic States and the increasing secularization of society, the Bonifatiuswerk has always stood by the side of Catholic believers who strive to practice their faith in an extremely minority situation.
