Bernd Duhn from Hamburg was elected new Vice President by the General Assembly of the Bonifatiuswerk. Duhn has been involved in the Bonifatius Council – the Supervisory Board of the Bonifatiuswerk – on an honorary basis since 2010 and now succeeds Hermann Fränkert-Fechter from the Archdiocese of Berlin, who held the office for eight years and has been a member of the Bonifatius Council since 1998. The General Assembly met in the Diocese of Mainz, where the Bonifatiuswerk launched the nationwide diaspora campaign of the Catholic Church.

Duhn brings valuable experience to this position

"We are glad that with Bernd Duhn we were able to elect such a committed Catholic into the office of Vice President; as the head of the department for day-care centres in the Archdiocese of Hamburg, he understands the situation of Catholics in the diaspora very well and thus brings valuable experience to this position," said the President of the Bonifatiuswerk, Heinz Paus. At the same time he thanked the retiring Vice President, who for 21 years helped to determine the fate of the Bonifatiuswerk and was involved in the change to its statute and self-placement. Dr. Hermann Wieh from the Diocese of Osnabrück, who had been a member of the Supervisory Board since 1995, also resigned from the Bonifatius Council.

After the General Assembly, the Bonifatius Council is the most important body of the Bonifatiuswerk, which decides annually on the allocation of project grants, adopts the budget and supervises the Executive Board.
