10.03.2020

The 2020 spring meeting of the Nordic Bishops’ Conference was held in Paderborn at the invitation of Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker and the Bonifatiuswerk of German Catholics. Since 1974, there have been close friendships between the Nordic bishops and Paderborn, and the Bonifatiuswerk has been supporting Northern European Catholics ever since. The bishops were welcomed in Paderborn town hall by Mayor Michael Dreier, who thanked them for their visit and for their long-standing partnership and friendship with the city of Paderborn. “There is a great and trusting relationship between the city and our friends in the Northern European dioceses. From Paderborn the support of the Bonifatiuswerk also reaches the cities you represent at your meeting this week,” said Dreier to the bishops. He also thanked the representatives of the Bonifatiuswerk for their commitment to the Northern European Catholics over the past decades.

The Chairman of the NBC and Bishop of Copenhagen, Czeslaw Kozon, thanked all those present for their many years of support. “Without this aid, a vibrant life of faith in the Northern European countries would not be possible. The concern of German Catholics for us is a blessing for us. I thank all the people of Paderborn, all representatives of the archdiocese, in particular Archbishop Hans-Josef Becker, and all staff at the Bonifatiuswerk for their financial support and for always keeping the concerns of our diaspora church in mind,” said Bishop Kozon. He thanked the city of Paderborn for the opportunity to sign the Golden Book, which is considered to be a sign of great appreciation by all representatives of the NBC.
